Exodus es una banda estadounidense de thrash metal formada en 1980 en la bahía de San Francisco, California por el guitarrista Gary Holt, Kirk Hammett actual guitarrista de Metallica, y el baterista Tom Hunting. Exodus es una de las primeras bandas de thrash metal abarcando una carrera de 30 anos, ha pasado por numerosos cambios de formación, dos hiatos extendidos y ha visto la muerte de dos miembros de la banda anterior. Con nueve álbumes de estudio, dos álbumes en vivo y dos compilaciones, Exodus ha publicado un total de trece álbumes desde su debut en 1985. Gary Holt sigue siendo el único constante miembro de la banda, apareciendo en todos sus lanzamientos. Aunque el baterista Tom Hunting es uno de los fundadores de la banda miembros, ha hecho dos salidas de Exodus, pero es Actualmente, el baterista de la banda activa.
En 1982, Exodus incluidos Kirk Hammett y Gary Holt en las guitarras, Paul Baloff como la voz principal, Jeff Andrews en el bajo y el baterista Tom Hunting. Esta formación grabo el 2 Demo. En 1983,Kirk Hammett sale de Exodus para formar parte de Metallica y fue reemplazado por el guitarrista Rick Hunolt y Rob McKillop sustituye Andrews tocando el bajo. Esta formación grabo y lanzo su álbum debut, 'Bonded by Blood en 1985.
Poco después de la grabación de Bonded by Blood, Paul Baloff fue reemplazado por Steve "Zetro" Souza, que había sido anteriormente el principal vocalista de la banda de San Francisco Legacy (mas tarde Testament). Baloff mas tarde paso a formar la banda Piranha.
linea de Exodus en marcha se mantuvo bastante estable durante los proximos albumes de la banda, pero nunca obtuvo el exito de sus compañeros. Despues de dos versiones de estudio (Fabulous Disaster y Impact is Imminent), la banda lanzo su primer esfuerzo en vivo, Good Friendly Violent Fun.
Después de un año inactivo, Exodus lanzo solamente otro disco en directo en 1997 titulado Another Lesson in Violencey con el regreso del vocalista Paul Baloff. Exodus se desintegro de nuevo, debido a una disputa con la discografica Century Media en el modo en que se promovió el álbum en vivo, y mas de un intento abortado en un vídeo concierto en vivo que fue filmado, pero nunca puesto en libertad debido a una disputa financiera.
